Wild Horses Can't Drag Me Away

Flight of the Red Tail Hawk

I happen to be very fond of Raptors, and especially Red Tail Hawks.  Recently I caught one in a tree by the road where I was able to stop, and got this series of shots, in Bingen, Washington.

Massive Gallery Sale!

This week only all of my images hanging at the White Salmon community library in White Salmon , Washington are marked down 40%. My computer died and I am trying to get to my aunt's funeral in Utah and I need to raise money. There are about 38 images on the walls ranging from frame size 11 x 14 and 16 x 24 up to 0 x 30 metal prints and 24 x 36 thin wraps All signed works and all 40% off through the end of March.

Something About Horses

Ever since I was a child I loved horses.. Never did get to own one, or even ride them more than a handful of wonderful moments, but that never stopped me from adoring powerful and beautiful creatures, and petting them any opportunity I can find.
This first photo is one i took back in 2007 in Trout Lake, a brief moment in the playful dance these two had choreographed spontaneously.  This first image became my dedication image on Flickr in honor of my Mother and Father, Claude and Nina Black, and has been seen around the world for 6 years now over 26,600 times.

As a Third Grader in school I learned to draw horses from my sister in law, and went on to teach my class the tricks of the trade.  Later in life I got to ride my friends big red Arabian Racehorse, Damascus, while he ran out of control and I stayed on!  Now i just pet and hug any horse that will come close enough to the fence and allow me to do so. 

Winds that Recharge the Soul

As my old-timer dad used to say "Colder than a witches tit" out here in the wind on top of the mountain last night. I watched the storm come Racing up the gorge far below, blowing streams of fog up the river and right up the hill at me and the trees were swaying in the wind and the wind was howling. Just a few raindrops at sunset though but they were giant raindrops three of them covered my lens. Hard to do any kind of justice of an event like this with the camera. Some things are just meant to be felt, to be witnesses.
As I left the hill last night there were a few snowflakes mixed with rain. This morning I look up from below and see a thin white blanket on the upper slopes.

Sometimes standing out on a hill in a fierce wind I imagine I can feel the wind through my fingertips as though they were Eagles wings
When I was a child my mother said I would stand on her lap by the open car window with my face in the wind, just happy.
I have always liked those Exhilarating kind of storms that blow through fast and capricious and I often would stand out in the wind Letting it blow through me as though it was cleaning out any shadows in my mind. Such capricious winds recharge me and make me feel so alive and alert, tingling to my fingertips.

Shall we go spin like tops in the wind Holding hands and laughing while our hair flies behind us?
And ride wild horses galloping across the hills, and Soaring On the wings of Eagles full of joy just being alive,
Above all the cares and worries of the world .

We have had some glorious sunrises and sunsets this month of February, 2013!  This one was from Feb 16 and I was having so much trouble processing it that a friend John Ramer helped by running it through Photomatix and Nik software to create this version from 3 bracketed exposures.  THIS is what I remember seeing with my eyes!
